Goverment Civil Hospital,
Hongkong, 22nd. April, 1901.
I regret to inform you that Mr. Edward
Abbott, Wardmaster at Kennedy Town Hospital, died this morn-
ing at this Hospital, the cause of death being due to phthisis
aggravated by dysentery.
Though only a short time in the service,
Mr. Abbott has proved himself one of the best Wardmaster we
have ever had. In addition to his ordinary duties, at my
suggestion, he set to work and rapidly learnt the duties of a
Bacteriological Assistant work requiring the most minute at-
tention to small uninteresting details. For this alone his
loss at present is a very great one to the Department. Under
kis régime the Infectious Hospital has never been so well
kept, nor the sick so carefully looked after.
I desire, therefore, to express my most
sincere regret at losing such a good and capable Officer.
I have etc.,
(sd.) J. Bell,
The Honourable
The Acting Colonial Secretary»
P. C. M. 0. (Acting).
